How do I set up maths practice for kids?

Any task can be completed with a maths practice instead of a tick: the child solves a round of sums, collabDoo grades it like a little test and awards points by grade. Designed for primary school, years 1 to 4.

Part 1

Set up maths practice

Easiest as a task of its own, e.g. “practise maths” daily after school for Max – or with “each for themselves” for the “kids” group, so every child practises their own round.

  1. Open or create a task

Manage → Tasks → new task or open an existing one.

  2. Choose the completion type

In the Completion section choose Maths practice under Complete via.

  3. Set up the practice

Open Set up practice. Tap the Quick pick at the top – Year 1 to Year 4 –, then adjust anything: Operations, Number range with Carrying over tens, Times tables, number of Tasks and Time (or no time limit).

  4. Set points and save

The task’s points are the maximum for a top grade. Save.

Good to know

Operations: addition and subtraction within the chosen range (10, 20, 100 or 1000), never negative, without carrying over tens if you like. Times = one of the chosen tables × 1 to 10. Division always comes out even and uses the same tables.

Also on Android and in web management

The practice runs in the iPhone and the Android app, also on the kitchen display for the selected person. It can also be set up in web management.

Part 2

Quick pick per year

The quick pick is just a starting point – adjust it to your child’s curriculum as you like.

Quick pickOperationsRangeTablesScope
Year 1Addition, subtractionup to 20, no carrying–15 tasks · 5 min
Year 2Addition, subtraction, timesup to 100, with carrying2, 5, 1020 tasks · 5 min
Year 3all fourup to 1000all tables20 tasks · 5 min
Year 4all fourup to 1000all tables30 tasks · 7 min

Part 3

How the child practises

  1. Tap the task

Instead of “Done” the game opens full screen: number of tasks, time and a short hint, then Let’s go!

  2. Calculate

The sum is shown large in the middle, answers are typed on a big number pad, Submit answer. A string of beads at the top shows progress, a ring the remaining time.

  3. Praise and learning

Correct brings confetti and praise (“Super!”, “Brilliant!”) plus a streak (“3 in a row!”). Wrong brings a warm “Almost! Remember:” with the right answer – so the child learns as they go.

  4. Result

At the end: up to three stars, “17 of 20 correct”, the grade and under Let’s practise these the sums that did not stick yet.

Good to know

The server generates and grades the sums – the answers are not in the app. A quick tick in the widget, the notification or via NFC is therefore blocked for maths tasks; they always open the practice.

Part 4

Grades & points

Grading works like a little test: anything unanswered counts as wrong, and when time is up, whatever is done counts.

CorrectGradePoints
from 95 %1full points
from 80 %280 %
from 65 %360 %
over 50 %440 % (at least 1 point)
50 % or less5none – the task stays open, try again any time
Good to know

Passing means done right away. If parent confirmation is set, points (and diamonds) come only afterwards – with the grade’s factor. The history shows grade, result, time and the sums to practise.

Good to know

At most 30 attempts per child and task within 24 hours.
